Ever since Apple released macOS Big Sur, the battery level percentage on Macs is automatically disabled. Some folks prefer to know exactly how much battery is remaining, down to the percentage.

You can easily enable the battery percentage through the battery settings in “Dock & Menu Bar” within System Preferences (System Settings on macOS Ventura and above).

I’m Jon, an expert in Apple computers and the owner of a 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro. I prefer to see the battery percentage on my Mac and put this guide together to show you how.

So keep reading to get the battery percentage in your MacBook Pro’s menu!

Step 1: Click The Apple Logo

Start by clicking on the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen. Once the drop-down menu pops up, click on “System Preferences (System Settings on macOS Ventura and above)” beneath “About This Mac.”

Click on System Preferences

Step 2: Open Dock and Menu Bar

In the “System Preferences (System Settings on macOS Ventura and above)” window, find the “Dock & Menu Bar” icon. The icon is a small black box with smaller multi-colored compartments at the bottom. Click on it to open.

Open Dock and Menu Bar

Step 3: Open The Battery Tab

After the Dock & Menu Bar screen opens, click on the “Battery” option on the left pane. You might have to scroll down to find it.  It is beneath “Accessibility Shortcuts” in the “Other Modules” section.

 Open The Battery Tab

Step 4: Change The Settings

Once you’re in the “Battery” settings, check the box next to “Show Percentage.” Now, you’ll see the battery percentage appear next to the battery indicator or battery percentage indicator level bar in the top menu of your screen.

More Battery Percentage Options

Additionally, you can also add the battery life percentage to the Control Center from the Dock & Menu Bar section. To add the percentage to your Control-Center, check the box next to “Show in Control Center.”

Once you check this box, a battery icon with the percentage will appear at the bottom of the Control Center.

If the battery bar doesn’t appear in the menu bar at all, you can add it to the apple menu bar through the same steps. Simply check the box next to “Show in Menu Bar.”

This tells your Mac to display the remaining battery life bar in your menu bar at the top of your screen.

Of course, you can check certain boxes without the others to change the settings according to your preferences.

If you want the battery percentage and bar to appear in the menu bar and Control Center, check all boxes in the “Battery” tab of the Dock & Menu Bar section.

Conclusion

Apple makes it quick and easy to add the battery life percentage alongside the battery icon in your MacBook Pro’s menu bar. All you have to do is go to System Preferences (System Settings on macOS Ventura and above) > Dock & Menu Bar > Battery and click the checkbox next to “Show in Menu Bar” and “Show Percentage” to show battery status.
